BUSINESS LAW LECTURER PARTICIPATES IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON LEGAL PLURALISM
From 13-15 January, Stijn Cornelis van Huis, lecturer at the Business Law Department, participated in the International conference of the Commission on Legal Pluralism, “The transformative power of legal pluralism? Planetary challenges in a diverse and multi-polar world”, in cooperation with Kaleka and the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia. The conference drew a wealth of academics from all over the world. More than100 scholars from 25 countries participated in the conference.
Stijn Cornelis van Huis, together with Theresia Dyah Wirastri presented their joint research on the development of Muslim family law in Indonesia through legal practice in the Islamic courts and the Supreme Court. They argued that, while legislative reforms progress slowly, significant legal change in the field of Indonesian Muslim family law takes place through legal practice under influence of national and international norms.
