Dr. Ahmad Sofian is a prominent Indonesian legal scholar specialising in criminal law and criminology. His academic and professional work is particularly distinguished by his strong commitment to child protection, the prevention of sexual violence, corporate criminal liability, and the development of a more responsive and victim-centred criminal justice system. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from Universitas Sumatera Utara. He subsequently earned his Master of Arts degree in Criminology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia before completing his Doctorate in Law at Universitas Indonesia. Dr. Sofian has long been actively involved in organisations dedicated to protecting children from sexual exploitation, abuse, and other forms of violence, most notably ECPAT. His sustained engagement in this field reflects his firm commitment to strengthening legal safeguards, institutional accountability, victim protection, and effective law-enforcement responses to crimes against children. He also holds a central leadership role in ASPERHUPIKI, a professional association of academics and lecturers specialising in criminal law and criminology. Through this involvement, he contributes to scholarly collaboration, the advancement of criminal law education, and the development of criminological discourse in Indonesia. At BINUS University, Dr. Sofian served two terms as Head of Department of the Undergraduate Law Program. During his tenure, he contributed to academic leadership, curriculum development, institutional governance, faculty coordination, and the strategic advancement of undergraduate legal education. His books and scholarly works address a broad range of subjects, including criminal law, sexual violence against children, corporate crime, criminal responsibility, and contemporary developments in criminal justice. Through his scholarship, advocacy, institutional leadership, and professional engagement, Dr. Sofian continues to make a significant contribution to criminal law, criminology, child protection, and legal education in Indonesia.
