Dr. Muhammad Reza Syariffudin Zaki is an Indonesian legal scholar whose academic interests encompass international trade law, international economic law, investment law, legal theory, and the relationship between law and economic activity. His scholarship is particularly concerned with Indonesia’s position within the global trading system, the protection of national economic interests, and the legal consequences of increasingly complex transnational commercial relations. He has authored several books and articles that contribute to legal education and the development of business-law scholarship in Indonesia. His principal works include Introduction to Legal Studies and Legal Aspects of Economics; International Trade Law; Investment, Multimodal Transport, and International Trade Law during the COVID-19 Pandemic; and Perspectives on International Law, Politics, and Economics. These publications demonstrate his ability to connect foundational legal concepts with contemporary economic, commercial, and geopolitical developments. A substantial part of Dr. Zaki’s research focuses on international trade disputes and Indonesia’s regulatory interests within the World Trade Organization. His publications include Safeguarding Sovereignty: Indonesia’s Solution to the Raw Materials Case before the WTO; The WTO Agreement on Agriculture: Indonesia’s Food Security in a Global Context; and Retaliation Mechanisms in Indonesian–European Union Trade Disputes concerning Crude Palm Oil Exports. Through these studies, he examines the tension between international trade commitments, economic sovereignty, natural-resource policy, and domestic development priorities. Beyond his academic work, Dr. Zaki is the founder of Rumah Imperium, a community-oriented initiative dedicated to social empowerment and the development of local potential. His activities through Rumah Imperium have inspired many individuals and encouraged greater participation in community-based initiatives. The movement has contributed to meaningful social change, particularly by strengthening community capacity, expanding opportunities, and supporting empowerment efforts in the Sumedang area. He is also actively involved in the Indonesian Society of International Law Lecturers. Through this professional engagement, he contributes to academic exchange, institutional collaboration, and the continuing development of international-law education and scholarship in Indonesia. Through his books, scholarly publications, and professional involvement, Dr. Zaki contributes to the advancement of Indonesian legal scholarship, particularly in international trade, economic sovereignty, investment, intellectual property, and the legal governance of technological and global economic change.
