NEW WAYS OF THINKING UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF THE DIGITAL HUMANITIES

On February 23 2024, via the zoom meeting platform, a webinar was organized by the Faculty of Humanities, Bina Nusantara University. This event was attended by lecturers and students from various universities, including BINUS campus partners from the Nationwide University Network in Indonesia (NUNI). This event was also designed as part of the Road to Digital Humanities International Conference in the next few months at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

One of the speakers at the seminar was Shidarta, a lecturer at the BINUS Business Law Department. He presented a topic about “new ways of thinking under the umbrella of the digital humanities.” In his presentation, Shidarta explained the differences between humaniora and humanities approaches, including the philosophical side. Then, he also explained the difference in approach between humanities and digital humanities. He concluded that there are at least seven principles in digital humanities that must be considered, namely interdisciplinarity, application of theory, digital representation, critical inquiry, knowledge representation, knowledge dissemination, and humaniora as the main objective of digital humanities.

Along with Shidarta, anoter speaker was Dr. Anuncius Gumawang Jati of ITB. He talked about “ChatGPT and Gemini: A Tale of Two Language Models.” Rangga Aditya, Ph.D. from International Relations Department of BINUS University became the moderator of the half-day seminar. (***)
